Day 9

What an awesome day!!! We baked cookies yesterday with the intent to take them to the local Fire Hall and to drop off gifts for Santa's Anonymous, but we ran out of time, so we went today.

Since it's Sunday, the main office was closed, but I noticed that one of the doors was open and there were a few Firemen, so I just walked up to them and mentioned that we were dropping off some gifts for Santa's Anonymous and had some cookies that we'd like to give to them and they were so appreciative. They invited us in to see the trucks and gave us a tour and then gave the kids each a teddy bear. It was so awesome!!

I wasn't sure whether they would accept baked goods since they have no idea who we were (I had asked at the front desk years ago and they said that it wouldn't be a problem so I thought I'd give it a try). Anyway, they were happy to have them and said anytime!!

It totally made my day.

  1. I finally had the chance to pay it forward today, and wanted to update you and catch up on your blog! By pure coincidence, I did the same thing that another commenter did back on day 2: I bought a $5 gift card at starbucks, ran out to my card to tape a pre-printed note to it, and then went back in to ask the barista to give it to the next person. He looked a bit confused, but agreed, and I think I saw a smile creeping across his face as I ran out the door nervously. It's so funny how such a small act gave me an adrenaline rush and made me feel flushed. As I walked out, a group of girls was walking in, so I knew I was probably passing the stranger who would receive the gift.
It's cool to think that you're probably not just making one person's day or just inspiring the recipient. The cashier/barista/friends of the stranger all get to witness the RAK. I posted a picture of the note I received on facebook with the hope that some of my friends would be inspired to do the same. Even if they didn't act on it, it's heartwarming to see these little things happening in real life.
